Ours is locally sourced beetle-kill spruce and pine from right here in the San Luis Valley — seasoned to under 20% moisture, verified with a meter, and measured to a true 128-cubic-foot cord. Why Our Firewood Is Different

Wet firewood burns poorly, produces excessive creosote, and wastes money. All of our firewood is seasoned to under 20% moisture content, and we verify it with a moisture meter before delivery. We do not sell green wood or wood that has not been properly dried — period.
Honest Measurement
A cord is 128 cubic feet: 4 feet wide, 4 feet tall, 8 feet long. Not a ‘face cord.’ Not a ‘truck bed.’ Not ‘about a cord.’ We measure accurately and deliver exactly what you pay for.
Locally Sourced in the San Luis Valley
Our firewood is locally sourced beetle-kill spruce and pine from right here in the San Luis Valley — not imported from out of state or trucked in from a far-off lot. It’s real Colorado high-country wood, seasoned and moisture-verified before it reaches you.
Dumped or Stacked — Your Call
Every order is delivered to your property, dumped in an accessible spot you choose — that’s our standard price. Want it stacked? For a flat $100 per cord, we’ll hand-stack it right where you need it, within about 10 yards of where our truck can safely unload: covered storage, side of the cabin, the woodshed. Stacking a cord by hand is real labor — this way you only pay for it if you want it, and if you’d rather stack on your own schedule, you’re not paying for what you won’t use.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance do I need to order?
During peak season (October through February), order at least 2–3 weeks ahead. We do our best to accommodate last-minute requests but cannot guarantee availability during heavy demand periods. Subscription customers receive priority scheduling throughout the season and guaranteed supply even when individual cord sales are sold out.
What species of wood do you carry?
Our standard cord is a spruce and pine mix — both beetle-killed species from local mitigation projects in the Rio Grande National Forest region, both locally sourced beetle-kill species from the San Luis Valley. Is beetle-kill wood safe to burn?
Yes. The beetles and larvae that killed the tree do not survive the drying and seasoning process. Properly seasoned beetle-kill timber burns cleanly and produces good heat. The distinctive blue-gray coloring visible in the wood cross-section — caused by a fungus the beetles carry — is purely cosmetic and has no effect on burn quality or heat output. It is what gives beetle-kill firewood its character.
Do you deliver outside South Fork and Creede?

How much does a cord of firewood cost in Colorado?
A full cord of seasoned firewood, delivered and dumped in a spot you choose, is $375 in South Fork, $385 in Del Norte, $395 in Creede, and $445 in Pagosa Springs — delivery included. Want it hand-stacked where you need it? Add a flat $100 per cord in any zone. South Fork is a 1-cord minimum; other zones are a 2-cord minimum. How do I choose the right firewood for my stove or fireplace?
Dryness matters more than species. Properly seasoned wood under 20% moisture burns hotter, lights easier, and produces far less creosote than green wood. From there, choose by heat output: our spruce and pine mix (15.5 million BTU per cord) is the right all-purpose choice, while premium ponderosa pine (17 million BTU per cord) burns hotter and holds overnight fires for primary-heat households. Is there an eco-friendly firewood option in Colorado?
The most environmentally sound firewood is local, dead-standing beetle-kill — and that’s what we sell. Buying local San Luis Valley wood keeps transport short and follows buy-it-where-you-burn-it guidance that helps prevent the spread of invasive forest pests.
Do you stack the wood, or just dump it?
Both — it’s your choice. Our standard delivered price is for a dump delivery: we bring your cord and dump it in an accessible spot you pick, delivery included. If you’d like it stacked, we’ll hand-stack it exactly where you want it — within about 10 yards of where our truck can unload — for a flat $100 per cord. Stacking a full cord by hand is genuinely hard work, so we price it as an add-on rather than baking it into every order. That keeps our base price lower for folks who’d rather stack themselves, and makes sure the stacking is worth our while when you do want it.
